Which Low-Carb Beers are good?
On a keto diet, it can be hard to find drinks that fit into your lifestyle. But fortunately beer isn’t one of them! Low carb beers are here to save the day! Becoming increasingly popular, with these delicious drinks, you can enjoy your favourite alcoholic beverages without worrying about weight gain. So if you’re looking for a way to keep your diet on track and still enjoy a few drinks every now and then, low carb beers might just be the perfect solution.
What Is A Low-Carb Beer?
Low carb beer is basically beer with lower carbohydrate contents. There are a few ways to make light beers, which are usually low-calorie and low-carb. One common method involves introducing certain enzymes into the mash or fermenting beer until most of its carbohydrates are broken down into simple sugars before diluting the mixture with water. It might sound like a terrible watery beer, but as beer companies have worked hard to make them taste almost perfect after they realised there’s such a wide market for cutting carbs without sacrificing flavor.

Will I Burn Fat On Low-Carb Beers?
No! Choose your beer nights wisely. Drinking alcohol can actually prevent your body from burning fat for up to 24 hours because your liver will be busy getting rid of the alcohol, instead of metabolizing fat. Try and limit drinking to 2 nights only, so that’s only 2 days with no fat burning per week, but if you want to stay in ketosis and continue burning fat, it’s best to skip the drinks!
Here are a few of my other well earned tips for drinking on keto:
- If you want to have a wine or two, choose a dryer wine (less carbs) and count them as your starchy carbs with dinner (so don’t have any potato/pumpkin etc)
- Clear spirits like gin mixed with lemon/lime and soda water has no carbs so is a better choice than wine
- Pure spirits like whiskey and vodka contain zero carbs, but be careful of sweet mixers, soda water is best. If you must drink a soft drink mixer, have a diet drink
- Get some Milk Thistle (Silymarin) tablets. You can order them from me or a chemist. Take 2 before you drink and another 2 in the morning, this will help get the alcohol out of your liver faster. Check with your health practitioner before taking any supplements.
- Don’t forget that if you haven’t eaten many carbs all day, the alcohol will hit you like it’s your first time drinking. Eat some healthy carbs before you drink.
