Do you suffer from mouth ulcers?

Usually a sign of very low zinc, mouth ulcers can be also be evoked by your toothpaste. Here’s some great info from From Mark Burhenne, a great natural dentist…

“Many toothpastes contain an ingredient called Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). SLS is a strong detergent and has demonstrated in several studies to increase ulcers. SLS is a surfactant and a foaming agent found in most household soaps and detergents. It gives you that bubbly, foamy feeling when you’re brushing that manufacturers know make you feel like your mouth is cleaner”.

That foamy feeling from SLS might feel good, but SLS actually strips away the protective lining of the mouth. SLS is rated as high chemical hazard for irritation and a moderate hazard for organ toxicity.

But there’s no reason to accept a hazardous chemical in your toothpaste!

All toothpaste needs to be to do the job is to be a mild polishing or abrasive agent that assists the toothbrush in removing biofilm. Anything beyond this is not part of the efficacy of the toothpaste — rather, a marketing ploy.

The mouth is a sensitive area that you never want to strip clean or dry out. Several studies showed that SLS breaks down the protective lining of the mouth, leaving the underlying tissues irritated and prone to break out in ulcers.

There are lots of natural toothpastes available (Grants is my favourite) or you can quite easily make your own.

Ingredients
  • Bi-carb soda
  • Coconut oil, softened
  • Essential oil – oregano, clove or peppermint
Method

Mix the bi-carb and coconut oil well until you get the consistency you like (I compare it to Creme Cleanser). Add 2-5 drops of oil. Sometimes I open a capsule of activated charcoal and add that in too, this makes your teeth nice and white.

You can also open a probiotic capsule and tip that in, the microbiome in your mouth needs to healthy just like your gut and can help with bad breath, gum inflammation, candida and more.
